sunkissed lola's debut album, watching wicked blind
November was a lot of things but here’s what.
what’s in my Kindle
Mistborn: The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson. This book just kept getting better. It’s impressive how Brandon thoroughly explored the crevices of friendship and love and still had the brain energy to build up on a gasp-worthy twist—I’m absolutely floored.
beat girlie favorites
Olaholah by SunKissedLola. What a power album. This definitely showcased the band's range. Punk rock, ballad, jam-ish, you get it. The concept, variety, and execution—hands down. I wish I was more savvy to express how every track just hit the right spots for me. Made me a fan for sure. And I heard they’re exceptional live—all the more reason to see them!
II: The Second by Arthur Nery. His vocal color alone could save an album. This was virtually no different from his Letters Never Sent but variety has not been his strength anyway. I see myself using this album to score a Pinoy lit romance.
Overcome by Skott. Reading Mistborn, I somehow tethered a resonant feeling to this song. Like an echo of what the characters have gone through. Beautiful. Hauntingly beautiful.
film and tv
Wicked. This was a fun watch! Thanks to M—a total theater kid—who insisted I give it a try. I didn’t go in knowing much about the story (all I had was a faint memory of watching Oz the Great and Powerful) but the music, the energy (and the comedy!) made it work for me. M told me it was better to watch it blind but I honestly felt like I missed out on some details. I wanted to feel what he felt! I knew there was more to watching Elphaba take that first leap while belting Defying Gravity.
